Limbaugh and Gingrich Are Poster Boys of Marital Termination

Rightwing Republican leaders Rush Limbaugh (De facto Chairman of the Republican National Committee) and 2012 Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich (Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives) position themselves as Biblical overseers sharing their anointed wisdom with the American public and the world. Yet a holistic look at the symbolism of their high and mighty leadership appears to suggest that they represent hypocritical nonsense considering these rightwing darlings discard wives like they are old shoes.

The Bible in 1 Timothy 3:2 offers the public persona of the overseer. “Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach.”

William J. Doherty, Ph.D points out that Limbaugh met his fourth wife while dumping his third. “Normally I might look to a high profile wedding as a sign of hope, but the week ended with 59 year old Rush Limbaugh’s fourth marriage, this one to a 33 year old woman whom he met during the divorce of his third wife. For his fourth wedding he went over the top, hiring Elton John, (a strange choice for entertainment given Limbaugh’s public concerns about gay marriage), who performed for 400 guests for a reported one million dollars.”

Limbaugh must believe that the Bible does not apply to him for he is a minor god that abhors the scripture, “the husband of but one wife.” He makes 50 million dollars a year to spout out provocative statements that mesmerizes his following on a model comparable to a Mega-Church Televangelist. Limbaugh is an expert at spreading disdain against liberal thinking. Ultra-rightwing white racists get to take solace that Limbaugh is keeping nonwhite liberal thinking from becoming the mainstream mindset of tomorrow.

Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody allows Gingrich to go a step further in spinning infidelity positively. Gingrich contends great passion for the United States of America helped to blind him in his indiscretions.

Patrick O'Connor sums up Gingrich’s worry on his Presidential bid because voters are astute enough to see through his smoking mirror infidelity legitimacy argument. “Christian conservatives, who play an influential role in the Iowa caucuses, have raised concerns about the former House speaker’s three marriages and acknowledged infidelity. His third wife, Callista, has played a prominent role in his recent career. The couple produced a pair of documentaries about the role of religion in America. In 2009, Mr. Gingrich converted to Catholicism, his wife’s religion.”

As a Roman Catholic approximately 60 years, I was always taught that the Catholic Church abhors divorce. Did Gingrich somehow get annulments (de facto divorces) from wives one and two? What is Gingrich’s real hidden political agenda? Can the Catholic bishops anoint a Gingrich Presidential bid knowing he is manipulating a basic rule of Catholicism?

The marital data suggests that there is over a 70 percent chance of landing in a new divorce with the third marriage; therefore, Limbaugh and Gingrich are two poster boys of marital termination. This dubious marital termination title is sufficient reason to defrock these ultra-rightwing conservatives of their legitimacy to guide the thinking of Mainstream America. Of course, these spin doctors have no problem teaching “the right way to do wrong.”
