Republicans are suffering political insanity because they vilified President Barack Obama with Obamacare now they want to take a meat clever to Medicare gambling that senior citizens will remain mum. They also are displaying a penchant for political suicide as the Democrats are now free to vilify their Medicare dismantling effort as solely non-compassionate against senior citizens.
Leading up to the 2010 Midterm Election, I felt there were unsubstantiated arguments suggesting that Obamacare was socialism. The Tea Party rightwing juggernaut candidates rode this Obamacare vilification to gaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives. But these Tea Party juggernauts failed to keep in mind that Hitler’s Nazi propaganda chief Dr. Joseph Goebbels taught that the true is the death knell of propaganda.
It is almost laughable to think that the Republicans beat up on President Obama for helping 32 million people get medical coverage whilst expecting senior citizens to turn a blind eye as they put fissures in the underpinning of Medicare. Republicans failed to realize that senior citizens know that Medicare works well meaning that the truth has destroyed their ability to propagandize its coverage. My guess is we, senior citizens, will punish anyone attempting to destroy this safety net in the 2012 General Election.
One senior citizen couple said disdainfully that the Republicans have forgotten that seniors will vote. They had no love for Republicans attempting to cut Medicare.
Another senior citizen gushed forth, “We need to vote against all Republicans for all offices.” This person was obviously upset at the attempt to dismantle Medicare wanting to punish all Republicans.
I see the Republicans now finding out that exploiting anti-Obama propaganda to win an office does not mean that you can govern once your constituency fully appreciates the difference between facts and fantasies.
As a long tenured Republican, I worry that the Republican Party failed to understand Albert Einstein’s quote, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” It looks like the Republicans have pushed senior citizens into the 2012 Obama camp because folks vote on three things: their pocketbook, pocketbook, and pocketbook. Senior citizens see the symbolism of dismantling a proven Medicare program, just when the baby boomers are reaching retirement age, will be too much for most senior citizens to stomach in the 2012 General Election.
