The dawn of the legality of Same Sex marriage is reshaping the national psyche on the right for people to be free to marry whomever they please. Yet Same Sex marriage is the tip of the iceberg in marital freedom.
The concepts of “baby daddy” and “baby mama” are suggestive that de facto polygamy is being practiced in the United States. Many baby mamas today are single parents struggling to raise children with only half of their parentage support in their development in the economic mainstream.
The tragedy is the baby daddy may view himself as a player and the baby mama as a bitch to be impregnated without any serious commitment to her then he simply moves on to the next lonely booty call. This baby mama exploitation is so awful that 72 percent of African American children are born out of wedlock. Thus, African American children may not see traditional marriage as something in which to desire.
Although many monogamous couples may abhor the thought of legitimizing the idea of polygamy in any form, it may become a way to meet the shortage of African American marrying age males that are wards of the criminal justice system. I once chatted with an Islamic friend to get an explanation for the positive use of polygamy. He argued the case that polygamy gave husbands to women due male shortages from deaths in wars.
My Muslim friend argued polygamy met their need in a male shortage. I find myself recounting resting near a bus stop one day while taking a walk. An African American chap asked had the bus come? I replied no! He said something like he was waiting for his wives. I thought I had misheard him. When the bus showed up two ladies dressed in professional garb got off the bus each one of these ladies grabbed this chap’s arms. As they walked away they left me taken aback.
The History of 2012 Republican Party Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney’s family brings the idea of polygamy to the radar screen of the economic mainstream. Romney is a descendant of polygamists. The television industry appears to be performing an exorcism on polygamy with shows like, “My Three Wives': Joe Darger Is Married To Twin Sisters And Their Cousin (VIDEO).”
I guess I am waiting to see a test case reach the US Supreme Court to knock down the bigamy laws (as Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act) throughout the US. What is clear the nation will be in peril if players are allowed to continue exploiting lonely women as mere booty calls for their offspring are growing up with only half the parental support system that marriage offers? At least polygamy gives tomorrow’s woman the opportunity to force a marital commitment from the player before deciding to have a child with him.
Thus, Romney might be remembered more for stirring the debate on polygamy than his unsuccessful Presidential bid.
